A complex of Nazi concentration camps located in Oświęcim and nearby towns, became a symbol of the Holocaust (the genocide of European Jews). These areas were incorporated into the Third Reich in 1939 as a result of the attack of Nazi Germany. The camp existed in the years 1940-1945. This time can be divided into two periods: 1940-1942, when the area served as a concentration camp and it was a place of slow extermination, and 1942-1944, when the camp became a place of mass extermination of Jews who were brought there by the authorities of the Third Reich. In the above period, we can estimate the number deaths of women, men and children to 1,1 million.  90% of the victims were Jews from all over Europe, which was under the influence of the Nazi Germany.

Auschwitz-Birkenau is the only concentration camp, which was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. In 1947, part of the former concentration camp was transformed into a museum, which until today is a testimony of Nazi Germany crimes in the occupied Poland.

Visiting the museum Auschwitz-Birkenau gives the opportunity to spend some time thinking about the cruel fate of the Holocaust victims and the history of Nazi atrocity.  The victims were being killed in gas chambers, as well as subjected to brutal scientific experiments. A huge part of the prisoners died as a result of the inhuman conditions that prevailed in the camp.

During the tour, you will see a permanent exhibition, originally preserved camp buildings in Auschwitz and objects in Brzezinka (Birkenau). These places constitute the largest Nazi concentration and extermination camp. We ask everyone for respect and proper behavior in these places to honor the memory of the victims. The group of visitors will be accompanied by a guide who will tell about their fates and show the camp complex.
