Established in 1937, the factory produced enameled dished and tin products. Two years later, it was taken over by a German entrepreneur – Oskar Schindler. This building is a special place in Cracow’s Zabłocie district. During the Second World War, Schindler employed there the Jews who were threatened with the extermination. Together with his accountant Itzhak Stern, he developed the famous “Schindler’s List” that allowed him to buy 1,100 of his employees, thus saving them from extermination.

The story of Schindler and his factory was described by Thomas Keneally in the novel “Schindler’s Ark”. Steven Spielberg’s famous film “Schindler’s List” is based on this book.

After the Second World War, the factory was taken over by the state, and in 2005 by the city of Cracow. Two years later, the place was divided into the Historical Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art. The first one holds a permanent exhibition “Krakow – time of occupation 1939-1945”.

The Schindler’s factory is one of the objects on the route of the Cracow Technology Route.
